Yemassee man gets 25 years for sexually assaulting child

2015-05-18

BEAUFORT –  A 23-year-old Yemassee man was sentenced today to 25 years in prison for sexually assaulting a child.

Justin Anthony Perkins, 23, pleaded guilty as charged to first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor following a July 2013 incident involving a 4-year-old child.

Assistant Solicitor Mary Jordan Lempesis, who prosecuted the case, said, “The information surrounding sexual abuse cases is never easy to hear, but so crucial. The young victim in this case was very brave and was prepared to testify against her abuser. As prosecutors, part of our job is to help protect the most vulnerable in our society. Today’s events will help make Beaufort County a safer place.”

Judge Tommy Cooper of Manning, SC, handed down the sentence. By law, Perkins must serve at least 85 percent of it before being eligible for parole.
