Two Beaufort County men convicted of armed robbery

RIDGELAND, SC – (July 17, 2015) Two Beaufort County men have been convicted of robbing a Hardeeville gas station in 2013.

Harold Jerome Ancrum, 37, pleaded guilty Monday to armed robbery and was sentenced to 14 years in prison. His co-defendant, Matthew Delleo Major, 37, pleaded guilty on Monday, July 6, 2015, to armed robbery and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Major was sentenced to serve 10 years for armed robbery and five years for gun possession, each to be served concurrently.

“Both of these individuals were a danger to our community,” said Assistant Solicitor Carra Henderson. “With the help of numerous agencies, these men are where they ought to be. “

On Nov. 3, 2013, around 7:45 p.m., Major and Ancrum went to the Kangaroo gas station at 6194 S. Okatie Highway. The store’s clerk was held at gunpoint. The clerk’s wallet and cash from the register were stolen.

After the duo left and drove off, they were soon stopped by officers on Simmonsville Road in Bluffton.  Officers found a pellet gun that looked like an assault rifle and mask and in the car. Cash was found on Major.

Ancrum’s sentence was handed down by Judge R. Lawton McIntosh. Major’s sentence was handed down by Judge Perry Buckner.
