Bluffton man gets 25 years in movie theater manager's robbery and assault
BEAUFORT, SC (July 22, 2015) – A Bluffton man was sentenced to 25 years in prison today after a jury found him guilty of robbing and assaulting a Hilton Head Island movie theater manager.
Austin L. McQuarters, 20, was convicted of armed robbery and first-degree assault and battery.
Around 11 p.m. Oct. 20, 2013, McQuarters went to Northridge Plaza on Hilton Head Island and approached the movie theater manager as he walked to his car. McQuarters asked the man for the time and then attacked him with brass knuckles, beating him about the head and face. McQuarters then stole a night deposit bag containing about $4,000.
“This was a planned and brutal attack on an unsuspecting man who was leaving work late at night on Hilton Head,” said Assistant Solicitor Mary Jordan Lempesis. “Austin McQuarters is a dangerous man who greatly injured the victim.”
The jury deliberated for about 90 minutes before finding McQuarters guilty.
Judge Thomas Cooper sentenced McQuarters to 25 years for armed robbery charge and 10 years for assault and battery, to be served concurrently.
