MYRTLE BEACH, SC (Sept. 27, 2021) – A veteran Lowcountry prosecutor dedicated to managing a juvenile caseload in Family Court has received an award by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Fourteenth Circuit Assistant Solicitor Christine Grefe has received the Ernest F. Hollings Award for Excellence in State Prosecution for her juvenile caseload work in Family Court. She was recognized Sunday at the annual Solicitor’s Conference in Myrtle Beach.
“Family Court focuses on doing what is best for the child,” said 14th Circuit Solicitor Duffie Stone. “What is in the best interest of the child is in the best interest of the community. … (T)he child Christine turns around at age 13 will not be the career criminal we will see at age 30. She is making a difference and making our community better.”
Grefe has been a prosecutor with the 14th Circuit Solicitor’s Office since 2004. She is one of the longest-serving attorneys in the office and is its lone prosecutor for juvenile cases, which are typically handled in Family Court. As assistant solicitor, Grefe works closely with the S.C. Department of Juvenile Justice and the Solicitor’s Office Juvenile Pre-Trial Intervention, Arbitration and Juvenile Multidisciplinary Court teams, which she was instrumental in forming.
She was recently nominated to serve on Governor’s Juvenile Justice Advisory Council.
Grefe is a graduate of Converse College and the University of South Carolina School of Law.
She is a longtime Lowcountry resident and stays involved with community theater.
The 14th Circuit Solicitor’s Office serves South Carolina’s only five-county circuit, prosecuting in Allendale, Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton and Jasper county General Sessions courts.
