Solicitor's Office seal

BLUFFTON, S.C. (Sept. 29, 2025) – The S.C. State Law Enforcement Division is investigating the actions of an off-duty Beaufort County Sheriff’s deputy who was suspended Sunday after video showed him drawing his firearm during an encounter with a group of boys in his Hilton Head Island neighborhood.

Once SLED completes its review, the Regional Public Integrity Unit will decide if criminal charges are appropriate.

Fourteenth Circuit Solicitor Duffie Stone and 1st Circuit Solicitor David Pascoe formed the PIU in 2020 to examine allegations of public corruption, as well as incidents involving law enforcement officers. It consists of senior-level attorneys and investigators from both offices.

The Sheriff’s Office is conducting an internal investigation into possible administrative violations and asked SLED to investigate any possible criminal violations.

In the meantime, the Solicitor’s Office will not discuss details of the matter.
