ALLENDALE, S.C. (Oct. 14, 2026) – An Allendale man has been sent to prison for slaying his cousin in a dispute over who would drive him home from an all-night party.
Radrick “Peanut” Latron Outing Jr., 38, was found guilty of murder Wednesday by an Allendale County jury in the 2024 shooting death of William Outing. He also was convicted of possession of a weapon during commission of a violent crime and sentenced to 35 years in prison.
“What began as a family disagreement escalated into a deadly act of violence when Radrick Outing pulled a gun and shot his unarmed cousin,” said Assistant Solicitor Reed Evans of the 14th Circuit Solicitor’s Office, who prosecuted the case. “William Outing tried to get away, but his cousin continued firing. This conviction ensures that Outing is held accountable for that choice and the life he took.”
At about 5 a.m. on Dec. 15, 2024, Allendale County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the victim’s residence on Ozzie Street, where they discovered William Outing in the yard, dead of a gunshot wound. The S.C. State Law Enforcement Division assisted in the investigation and recovered at least seven shell casings from the scene.
Two witnesses told investigators that the Outings and other family members had been hanging out and drinking all night. A female relative was about to take Radrick Outing home. William Outing then came outside of his home and wanted to drive. Both Radrick Outing and the female objected. William Outing then ordered everyone out of his yard.
Radrick Outing confronted his cousin, pulling a handgun on him, then firing a shot into the ground. The victim and one of the witnesses retreated near a tree, but when William Outing then tried to run away, his cousin fired several more shots. After William Outing fell to the ground, Radrick Outing walked past him, paused, then shot his cousin in the head.
William Outing was struck three times in all. He was unarmed.
One witness remained on the scene, called 9-1-1 and identified a man named “Peanut” as the shooter. Radrick Outing’s father confirmed that his son’s nickname is Peanut and told officers where they could find him. Outing Jr. was apprehended at a home on Ellis Street. Outing Jr. admitted he brought his gun to the home, and the homeowner directed authorities to his 9mm handgun hidden under a footstool. The gun had one cartridge in the chamber but an empty magazine.
Radrick Outing Jr. has a lengthy criminal record that dates to 2005 and includes offenses in South Carolina and Florida. It includes convictions for conspiracy, sale of a controlled substance, cocaine possession, sale of an illicit substance, third-degree domestic violence, possession of crack, cruelty to children and giving false information.
Evans and Assistant Solicitor Kristen Perez called 15 witnesses during two days of testimony at the Allendale County Courthouse. Among them were experts who testified that shell casings found at the scene matched Outing’s gun and that gunshot residue was found on his hands, hat, hoodie, T-shirt, jeans and shoes. The defendant’s DNA was also detected on the grip of the handgun.
Circuit Court Judge Carmen T. Mullen handed down the sentence.
Evans is a member of the Career Criminal Unit, which prosecutes the circuit’s most violent and habitual offenders. That team has earned convictions against 552 of the 606 defendants it has prosecuted since its formation in 2009.
