Allendale teen convicted of elderly man’s murder

ALLENDALE, SC (July 14, 2016) – An Allendale County teenager was found guilty today for beating and suffocating an elderly man during a 2014 attack in the man’s home.

It took an Allendale jury about an hour to convict Robert Lee Miller, III, 17, of murder in the death of 86-year-old Willie Johnson. Thursday’s conviction wrapped up a four-day trial at the Allendale County Courthouse.

The attack took place around 8 p.m. June 19, 2014 at Johnson’s Pickrum Street home.

“This was a brutal attack on an elderly man by someone who has a total disregard for life and the law,” said the case’s lead prosecutor, Deputy Solicitor Sean Thornton.

Miller was 15 at the time of the murder, but a hearing in 2014 determined he met certain criteria to be tried as an adult.

Circuit Court Judge Rivers Lawton McIntosh presided. Sentencing will be held a later date.
