Beaufort County man convicted of two Bluffton bank robberies

BEAUFORT, SC (Jan. 28, 2016) – A 42-year-old Beaufort County man pleaded guilty today to robbing two Bluffton banks in the summer of 2014.

James A. Gable pleaded guilty to robbing the TD Bank on 1021 Fording Island Road on July 14, 2014, and the SunTrust Bank on Westbury Park Way on Aug. 22, 2014.

Gable never displayed a weapon during the robberies, but told each of the bank tellers he had a gun, said Assistant Solicitor Hunter Swanson during Thursday’s hearing at the Beaufort County Courthouse.

Gable was sentenced to 10 years for each bank robbery, to be served concurrently.

The sentence was handed down by Circuit Court Judge Michael Nettles.

Defendants convicted of bank robbery are not eligible for parole.
