Multidisciplinary Court substance use counselor

Our multidisciplinary treatment court seeks a substance use disorder counselor to work with participants who are receiving treatment and close supervision as an alternative to prison. Our program is aimed primarily at non-violent offenders whose addiction underlies their criminal behavior. Our goal is to get them into recovery and a law-abiding lifestyle.

Applicants must be able to work as part of a team, be organized, exercise sound judgment, be able to prioritize workload and assignments, and possess excellent communication skills. 

The Solicitor’s Office program has excellent graduation and recidivism rates and one of the highest participation censuses in South Carolina. The program is offered in all five circuit counties — Beaufort, Jasper, Colleton, Hampton and Allendale. This in-house counselor will provide services for some participants and coordinate with community partners for effective case management.

Job duties and requirements

The Substance Abuse Therapist/Counselor will assess, diagnose, treat and refer adult participants in the 14th Circuit Multi-Disciplinary Court program. He or she will also:

  • Have experience with ASAM Criteria and the ability to accurately diagnose disorders using DSM-5 criteria.
  • Develop and execute individualized treatment plans that include measurable goals. Any interventions outlined in the treatment plan must be founded on best practices and evidence-based modalities.
  • Work with other therapists/staff as part of a clinical team. Must be able to maintain timely and accurate documentation and provide regular client updates to the MDC team.
  • Make referrals to outside professionals and programs as appropriate. ssist with drug-screening regimen.
  • Travel between counties in the circuit and occasional evenings and weekends is required.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Valid S.C. driver’s license
  • Master’s degree in Human Services, Counseling, Social Work, or related field.
  • Currently licensed or certified in the State of S.C., without any restrictions.
  • Clear SLED background check
  • At least 1 year of substance abuse counseling experience.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $53,000.00 per year

Assistant Solicitor

The Fourteenth Circuit Solicitor’s Office seeks prosecutors to work within the state’s only five-circuit judicial circuit. Newly licensed attorneys and third-year law students are encouraged to apply. Applications for 2024 will be accepted starting on Dec. 1, 2023. 

Applicants must be able to work as part of a team, be organized, exercise sound judgment, be able to prioritize workload and assignments, and possess excellent communication skills. 

Minimum Education and Experience: 

Applicants must have already graduated from an accredited law school or anticipate graduation in 2024. Applicants must already be admitted to the practice of law before the courts of record in South Carolina or anticipate bar admission in 2024. Sworn attorneys must be an active member of the bar and in good standing with the South Carolina Supreme Court.

Our office is the chief prosecuting agency for Allendale, Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton and Jasper counties. Our primary role is to prosecute all cases in General Sessions Court, certain misdemeanors in Magistrate’s Court and all criminal cases in Family Court. Each year, we prosecute approximately 5,000 new cases.
