Assistant Solicitor
The Fourteenth Circuit Solicitor’s Office seeks prosecutors to work within the state’s only five-circuit judicial circuit. Newly licensed attorneys and third-year law students are encouraged to apply. Applications for 2024 will be accepted starting on Dec. 1, 2023.
Applicants must be able to work as part of a team, be organized, exercise sound judgment, be able to prioritize workload and assignments, and possess excellent communication skills.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Applicants must have already graduated from an accredited law school or anticipate graduation in 2024. Applicants must already be admitted to the practice of law before the courts of record in South Carolina or anticipate bar admission in 2024. Sworn attorneys must be an active member of the bar and in good standing with the South Carolina Supreme Court.
Our office is the chief prosecuting agency for Allendale, Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton and Jasper counties. Our primary role is to prosecute all cases in General Sessions Court, certain misdemeanors in Magistrate’s Court and all criminal cases in Family Court. Each year, we prosecute approximately 5,000 new cases.

Multidisciplinary Court Director
The 14th Circuit of the Solicitor’s Office seeks a director for its Multi-Disciplinary Diversion Court program. This “alternative-sentencing” program rehabilitates qualifying offenders with treatment and support, as an alternative to prison. We offer the program in all five circuit counties — Allendale, Beaufort Colleton, Hampton and Jasper. The goal is to address the underlying problems that are causing an individual to commit crimes so they become productive members of society. We have impressive recidivism rates and graduation rates. Experience in at least one of the following fields is mandatory: Addiction counseling or mental health treatment of patients with co-occurring disorders; law enforcement; administration of social services; or administration of diversionary or alternative-sentencing programs. Familiarity with All-Rise treatment court standards strongly preferred.
The salary range is $50,000 to $60,000, with pay commensurate with qualifications.
Primary objectives:
Our MDC director ensures the program operates effectively and efficiently across the judicial circuit, in accordance with best practices prescribed by All Rise and other recognized standard-bearers, as well as goals and objectives set by the Solicitor.
Duties:
- Oversees hiring, training, certification and annual review of Multidisciplinary program personnel.
Fosters functional, cooperative relationships with partnering agencies and organizations to best serve MDC participants. - Maintains accurate and timely program rosters and statistics for both internal reporting and grant reporting.
- Oversees contractual obligations, and ensures compliance with grant requirements, as well as legal, medical and privacy requirements.
- Provides daily direction and leadership to the MDC team. This includes ensuring timely case processing, from referral to program completion, and participation in sample collection and processing for our in-house drug screening program.
- Leads status-review hearings and ensures program goals and legal issues are observed.
- Leads the assessment process and works with prosecutors and MDC staff to identify potential participants in a timely manner. This includes performing initial assessments.
- Works with staff to make external referrals for cognitive, educational and mental health services, as well as other programming areas.
- Ensures staff is suitably trained, versed in key components of the All Rise best practices and maintain any credentials necessary to performing their duties.
- Seeks grant and partnership opportunities to expand and improve MDC services.
