Former Solicitor’s Office employee faces misconduct charge

BEAUFORT, S.C. (April 8, 2025) – On June 21, 2024, 14th Circuit Solicitor Duffie Stone asked the S.C. State Law Enforcement Division to investigate the director of the office’s Multidisciplinary Court program, Teresa Pye, for allegedly alerting a participant that he was being sought by federal immigration agents. Stone further instructed SLED to report its findings directly to the S.C. Attorney General’s Office.

Pye was immediately placed on administrative leave, and the participant was terminated from the program.

On Aug. 13, 2024, the Solicitor’s Office discovered new information as part of a human resources review of Pye’s conduct, and she was immediately terminated.

As a result of SLED’s criminal investigation, Pye was indicted in March on a charge of misconduct in office and will be prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office. She will be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, at the Beaufort County Courthouse.

As with all defendants, Pye is innocent until and unless proven guilty in court. Any questions should be directed to the Attorney General’s Office.
