Yemassee man convicted of murder in restaurant parking lot

WALTERBORO, S.C. (Dec. 17, 2025) – A 45-year-old Yemassee man accused of killing a woman in the parking lot of a Walterboro restaurant has been convicted of murder and sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Marvis Jermaine Williams was found guilty of murder Wednesday in the Aug. 15, 2023, shooting death of Mia Tabb outside the Barrell House Grille on Robertson Boulevard. Williams was also found guilty of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime following a three-day jury trial at the Colleton County Courthouse.

“This defendant’s actions were brazened and ruthless,” said Assistant Solicitor Julie Kate Keeney of the 14th Circuit Solicitor’s Office, who prosecuted the case. “His actions resulted in the death of one woman and put others at risk. Justice was served today while making Colleton County a safer place.”

Tamika Suewanna Carter, 49, also is charged with murder in connection with the case. She is innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.

Circuit Court Judge Marvin Dukes handed down Wednesday’s sentence against Williams.

His criminal record includes convictions for unlawful carrying of a weapon and possession of a stolen weapon (2005); possession of cocaine (2013); and obtaining goods under false pretenses over $10,000 and pointing and presenting (2022).

Keeney oversees prosecutions in Colleton County and a member of the Career Criminal Unit, which prosecutes the circuit’s most violent and habitual offenders. The team has earned convictions against 537 of the 590 defendants it has prosecuted since its inception in late 2009.
