A North Augusta, SC, man who shot and killed one man and injured three others in 2014 has been sentenced to 50 years in prison following a three-day trial at the Allendale County Courthouse.
Laparis Shemel Flowers, 27, was found guilty Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018, of murder, three counts of attempted murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of violent crime in connection to a deadly shooting Dec. 6, 2014 at the Pinewood Apartments on Barton Road in Allendale.
Four men were inside a parked vehicle at the apartment complex when Flowers shot into their car, striking three of the four men. One of the men later died at Allendale County Hospital.
“This defendant has been a true menace to the Allendale and surrounding communities,” Assistant Solicitor Tameaka Legette said. “He has terrorized countless people and wreaked havoc on these people’s lives. Prison is exactly where this man needs to be.”
Flowers is a native of Allendale County.
Legette is a member of the Solicitor’s Office’s Career Criminal Unit, which prosecutes the circuit’s most violent and habitual offenders. The team earned convictions against 44 of its 46 defendants in 2017. Flowers’ conviction is the unit’s first of 2018.
Fellow Career Criminal Unit team member Brian Hollen assisted in the prosecution of Flowers. Circuit Court Judge Perry M. Buckner handed down Thursday’s sentence.
